Dr. Turakhia's Story
As a Global Health Scholar for the 2013-2014 academic year, I was remarkably fortunate to work at Black Lion Hospital and live in Addis during a time of incredible change. The infrastructure for the Radiology Department continued to expand and improve. The new, freestanding Department of Radiology imaging center was complete and ready for receipt of the new 128-slice CT scan and 1.5Tesla MRI. In preparation for these game-changing tools, my primary focus was to educate the residents on a variety of topics in computed tomography. Specifically, I discussed and shared appropriate imaging protocols and presented a number of lectures focusing on thoracic and abdominal pathology on CT. Ongoing projects include facilitating improved interdepartmental communication between Radiology and Internal Medicine as well as developing a Radiology lecture curriculum for the IM interns.
