Alongside the towering five-story McCormick Place windows and endlessly meandering Starbucks lines, Emory Radiology made its mark on the 103rd Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. From November 25 to December 1, Emory Radiology faculty conducted over forty presentations and thirty educational exhibitions at the conference in Chicago.

Faculty presentations ranged from meeting rooms with around fifty seats to expansive ballrooms with thousands of seats. Many of the spaces were often left with standing room only by the time presentations began. Educational exhibitions, located in the expansive Learning Center, could be found across nearly every clinical division. Some faculty attended to present their exhibits to small groups gathered around designated computer stations. In addition to lectures and exhibits, vendors from across all industries related to radiology were in attendance to unveil the latest technologies and quality improvements.

One team of exhibitors, made up of Fred Bertino, MD, Kiery Braithwaite, MD, Matt Hawkins, MD, and Sarah Milla, MD, took home a cum laude award for their work entitled “Congenital Limb-length Discrepancy and Associated Vascular Anomalies: An Imaging Review of Presentation, Differential Diagnosis, and Treatment Options.”

Three faculty members were honored as RSNA grant recipients with plaques and portraits in the mail hall of the conference. Adam Prater, MD, PhD, received the RSNA Research Seed Grant, Patricia Balthazar, MD, received the RSNA Resident Research Grant, and Richard Duszak, MD, received the RSNA Education Scholar Grant.

A major focus of Emory Radiology this year was our social media presence, especially on Twitter. In addition to activity from faculty members, the Emory Radiology (@EmoryRadiology) account published hundreds of tweets and received 84,400 impressions (views) throughout the week, averaging 12,100 per day. The account also received an increase in profile visits by around one thousand compared to an average week.

On Tuesday night, faculty and staff gathered at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel downtown for a reception with Emory Radiology alumni. The event was an opportunity for current faculty and residents to catch up and network with former colleagues or students. Attendees enjoyed the food and drink options (including Chicago favorites like deep dish pizza) and posed for photos throughout the night.

RSNA holds its Annual Meeting at McCormick Place in Chicago each year during the last week of November. For more information, see http://www.rsna.org/.
