The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine has recognized Dr. Dixon as a fellow of the Society and awarded him the gold medal. He has approximately 50 publications and 10 patents. Dr. Dixon has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

  • Ph.D. Physics, University of California, San Diego
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honors), University of Minnesota, Minneapolis
  • Postdoctoral training, Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Washington University, St Louis, Missouri

Dr. Dixon has broad training in nuclear magnetic resonance including nuclear quadrupole resonance spectroscopy and high-resolution carbon-13 spectroscopy in spinning solid samples. His independent career has been in whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He is primarily known for his original work on water specific and fat specific imaging. Other firsts include arterial spin-label angiography, which is totally noninvasive, and key-hole imaging.
