Letter from the Chair
Jan. 31, 2018
Dear Colleagues,
The Emory Radiology presence was palpable at the annual gathering of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, with a record over 70 presentations, courses, and exhibits by faculty, staff, and trainees. The RSNA was also characterized by unusually warm weather and the ubiquitous presence of excitement over machine learning. Rapid acceleration of computing capabilities and advances in data science have yielded great promise for the development tools to streamline image feature quantitation, improve diagnostic speed and accuracy, and facilitate disease/treatment monitoring. Efforts to build a substantial investigative team in this domain is underway in partnership with the Department of Biomedical Informatics.
Broad participation in the making of the department’s 2018-22 strategic plan is underway. Interactive teams, guided by the feedback from multi-hospital site town halls and faculty meetings, are busy fleshing out specific initiatives within the four goal themes to 1) enhance the employee experience, 2) optimize the patient service and outcomes, 3) foster a “one radiology” environment, and 4) drive innovation. Thanks to all who have and continue to provide input and feedback.
As the new year is in full swing, I am grateful for the privilege to serve Emory Radiology and to work with so many wonderful colleagues.
Best to all,
Carolyn
