Letter from the Chair

April 17, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

meltzer

After a cold and wet winter, it seems spring has finally come to Atlanta.  Along with it comes both beautiful blooms and ubiquitous pollen.

March 30th was Doctors’ Day, an annual national celebration of the impact of physicians on our lives.  In Radiology, our physicians work in interdisciplinary teams across subspecialties that interface with nearly all patients who walk through the doors of Emory Healthcare and our affiliate health systems.  Now, that’s impact!  The School of Medicine took the opportunity to recognize specific individuals for their contributions to the delivery of high quality care, including Drs. Aiken, Fleming, Hawkins, Milla, Newsome, and Prologo.

Another highlight of March was “Match Day,” the day that medical students find out where they will go on for post-graduate medical training.  Our residencies filled with highly talented radiology professionals-to-be, including three Emory medical students.  Meanwhile, two of our current diagnostic radiology residents, Alex Dabrowieki and Anna Trofimova, received department Adopt-a-Resident awards to support mentored educational innovation projects.

After so many years of service to Emory, we share memories and good wishes with Chuck Powell, who will be engaging full-time in his leadership coaching and teaching activities. Dr. Powell will remain an adjunct faculty member in our department and we look forward to engaging him periodically in special projects. A national search for Chuck’s successor has been launched.

Best to all,

Carolyn
