ANR 2019 Outstanding Presentation
The ASNR Outstanding Presentation Awards recognize the best oral abstract presentations that occur during the ASNR Annual Meeting in the categories of general neuroradiology, pediatric neuroradiology, head and neck, spine, and functional neuroradiology. Award winners are the esteemed recipients of the 2019 Outstanding Presentation Awards for abstract presentations given during the 57th Annual Meeting in Boston. Dr. Allen with Dr. Anna Trofimova were recognized for their presentation, “Functional Connectivity Alterations in Subacute Post-Concussive Visual Motion Sensitivity Using a Novel Task-Based Functional MRI Vestibular Paradigm.”
Charlotte Chung, MD, PhD
RSNA R&E Foundation Resident/Fellow Research Grant
Dr. Chung was awarded a research grant for her project, “Prediction of CT Perfusion Arterial and Venous Time-Attenuation Curve Parameters Using Deep Learning Systems: Proof-of-Concept for Developing a Personalized CT Perfusion Protocol for Acute Stroke Workup.” This R&E Foundation grant gives young radiologists the chance to gain insight and experience in scientific investigation while they’re still in training. Resident grant recipients receive $30,000 for a one-year project.

2019 Distinguished Investigator Award
The Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research announced 37 researchers who were selected to receive the Academy’s 2019 Distinguished Investigator Award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals for their accomplishments in the field of medical imaging. Academy Executive Director Renee Cruea noted that the recipients represent the top 10% of all academic radiology faculty. Honorees will be inducted into the Academy’s Council of Distinguished Investigators during a ceremony at the RSNA Annual meeting in November.

The Harvard Macy Institute Program for Educators in Health Professions enhances the professional development of physicians, basic scientists, and other healthcare professionals as educators. The program is built around 6 major themes: the science of learning, teaching skills and strategies, inquiry and evidence in education, curriculum design, examining your assumptions, leadership development, and innovations in education.
Shahrzad Ghasemshahi, RT(R)
Merrill Award Winner
Shahrzad Ghasemshahi, an x-ray technologist at the Winship Cancer Institute, is the June Merrill Award winner. She was recognized for her close-to-perfect x-ray images of sacroiliac joints. The Merrill Award celebrates Emory Radiology’s x-ray technologists for exemplary imaging quality and patient care. It is represented at six Emory sites: Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Winship Cancer Institute, Executive Park, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, and Emory Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital.
Rotaeger James, RT(R)
Merrill Award Winner
Rotaeger James, a technologist at Emory University Hospital Midtown, is the April Merrill Award winner for her great positioning, centering, and technique in her barium enema study. She was also the second place winner for images in lumbar spine imaging. The Merrill Award celebrates Emory Radiology’s x-ray technologists for exemplary imaging quality and patient care. It is represented at six Emory sites: Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Winship Cancer Institute, Executive Park, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, and Emory Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital.
Nima Kokabi, MD, FRCPC
RSNA Research Scholar Grant
Dr. Kokabi received a 2-year, $150,000 funding research grant for his project, “Theranostic Approach Towards Personalized Medicine Using Low-Dose Y90 Microspheres for Radioembolization Therapeutic Planning.” This R&E Foundation grant supports junior faculty members who have completed resident and fellowship programs, but haven’t been recognized as independent investigators.
Carolyn Meltzer, MD, FACR
2019 ASNR Gold Medal
Dr. Meltzer is one of two recipients of this year’s ASNR Gold Medal. Her contributions to ASNR include establishing the Women in Neuroradiology Leadership Award, enhancing programing on health policy and economics, and leading strategic planning efforts. The ASNR Gold Medal fosters the highest standards of the American Society of Neuroradiology, recognizing exceptional service and achievement. It is awarded on the basis of both professional and personal excellence, honoring individuals who are superb neuroradiologists, scientists and/or physicians, and outstanding people.
Mimi Newell, MD
President of the Georgia Radiological Society (GRS)
Dr. Newell is the first female president of the The Georgia Radiological Society (GRS). GRS is the Georgia chapter of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and represents the member radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, nuclear medicine physicians, and associated members-in-training of Georgia. Board members link with the ACR and direct the efforts of the GRS between annual meetings of the Society. They provide educational opportunities and provide information to our members with respect to practice guidelines, technical standards, and government relations.

RAHSR Harvey L. Neiman Award
The Radiology Alliance for Health Services Research (RAHSR) - Harvey L. Neiman Award is presented annually to any student, resident, fellow, or AUR member who submits an outstanding abstract on radiology socioeconomics or health services research for presentation at the AUR Annual Meeting. The winner receives a certificate and $1,000 honorarium and will be asked to present his or her paper during the AUR 68th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania next April.
